There was definitely a sign on the RaR set warning people that the shops are “fake” when I visited, but it was fairly discreet, and that was perhaps a couple of years ago. If it was the filming season when you visited (even if they weren’t shooting at the time you visited), perhaps the sign was removed temporarily.

That could well be – there was a fair amount of activity in the shops when I was there so they were probably preparing for something.

It was a shame we missed meeting up this time, @philipnewton, but I’m glad you had what sounds like an action-packed couple of days! And you were even able to see Snowdonia in the sunshine - not everyone manages that!
