Participants wanted for a research project about Welsh learners
I work for the Open University and am researching the role of technologies in supporting adults learning Welsh, with a focus on informal learning and is looking for participants. The project aims to find out:
1 What informs the choices that Welsh learners make in using technologies?
2 How have changes impacted on Welsh learners’ practices over the past 7 years, in particular informal practices using digital devices?
3 Have political changes impacted on learners’ practices over the past 7 years? If so, how?
- What impact has the COVID pandemic had on Welsh learners’ practices?
I hope that some SSIW participants will take part . If you are accepted on the project (there’s a limit on the number of participants as I am the sole researcher) you will be asked to complete a brief online questionnaire to gather demographic information (e.g. age, gender, type of technologies you use). I would also like to interview some of you, probably via Skype. The interview will last up to 45 minutes and will be recorded. Questions would include, e.g,. why you are learning Welsh and how you use technologies to support your learning. If you would like to take part please email me (ann.jones@open.ac.uk) and I will get back in touch to provide further information (including information about confidentiality and security of data) .
Your anonymity and confidentiality will be protected. You can withdraw from the project at any time up to 30/11/202. (After this, data will have been anonymised and amalgamated). I am happy to share project results and any papers published and to keep you updated. See more about my previous research at: http://oro.open.ac.uk/42397/; my professional profile at (https://iet.open.ac.uk/people/ann.jones and my Welsh blog at https://aildysgu.blogspot.com. Thank you very much for reading this post! I hope to hear from some of you.”
Please note that the research protocol for this study has been considered by the Open University human research ethics committee and has been given a favourable opinion, reference number 4056/Jones.
