North or south welsh?

Oh dear! I am out of date again! Mae ddrwg gei i!

North or South - does it matter? The important thing is to learn Welsh.

If you were learning any other language would you worry about the way people say things in other parts of the country?
No, you learn the basics of the language and then add to it, depending on which area of the country you decide to live in or perhaps visit, where there may be a very significant word difference.

And if you speak it well enough in one area, you just ask when you move house! Or, well, I was 10+ when we moved to York. I learned to listen and use a bit of lateral thinking. The one I have mentioned elsewhere was when I finally worked out that the lads were saying “What d’they call thee?” And cried, “Oh! You want to know my name!” My Mam had much more trouble, being older. I often had to translate for her. But now in mid-Argyll, I still have to ask for translation of some Scots!!
