(New) C1 Lesson 18

At (25:18) of lesson 18, the sentence is “I feel that I’ve still got to learn more.”

My response was “Dwi’n teimlo bod dal rhaid i fi ddysgu mwy" because it’s more of a must than a possession or quantity.

The given response was “Dwi’n teimlo bod dal gen i’w fwy i’w ddysgu,” which I translated as “I feel that I still have more to learn.”

Are these concepts interchangeable in Welsh, am I just confused, or is it a just a small mistake?

For reference, in lesson 19, at (17:30) I’ve still got to learn more is given as “Mae dal rhaid i fi ddysgu mwy” and at (26:40) I’ve still got more to learn is “Mae dal gen i fwy i ddysgu.”

Diolch,

Joanie

or is it a just a small mistake?

This one, on my part. Pretty fantastic for you to have caught that, to be honest! :good-work:

Oh thank you Joanie for this post.
I’m not an English-speaker, so it’s difficult for me to understand this little difference. I thought that I had worked out that : I’ve got more to learn is the “mae gen i” structure and I’ve got to learn more is the "mae rhaid i mi " structure. I was very confused with the sentence in lesson 18.
i still need to repeat the English sentence in my head to understand what I’m supposed to say, but it’s good to know that I was right here.

Thanks Aran - it’s just my “I must be doing something wrong” drive kicking in.

Glad I’m not the only one who ended up a bit confused, Brigitte. Especially since I know you’re strong with Welsh.
