My first attempt at writing lyrics in Welsh

One of the big reasons for my decision to learn Welsh was the Welsh language music that I love (Super Furries, Gorky’s, Yr Ods, Swnami, Race Horses etc). After having my first conversations in Welsh last month (including one with a member of Yr Ods randomly enough!), I’ve gone for it and tried to write some lyrics. Any thoughts and opinions would be great. I’ve tried to keep the lines fairly simple, so hopefully much of it makes sense!

Ochr Mynydd
T’in meddwl ti’n clyfar
Dringo i fyny’r ochr mynydd
T’in meddwl ti’n clyfar
Dringo i fyny’r ochr mynydd
T’in meddwl ti’n mor clyfar
Paid drysu fy mhen
Achos ti ddim yn clyfar
A mae’r jôc yn hen

T’in meddwl bo’ ti’n clyfar
Dw i’n cysgu ar lwmp o iâ
T’in meddwl bo’ ti’n clyfar
Dw i’n cysgu ar lwmp o iâ
T’in meddwl ti’n mor clyfar
Gwely bo fi’n casau
Ti ddim yn clyfar
Dim siawns wela’i

A pan dwi’n llithr i lawr yr mynydd
Sgwn i os wnai teimlo’n hapus eto
A pan yr pethau drwg yn digwydd
Dw i isio anghofio, dw i isio rhedeg i fforwdd

Dw i ddim isio ceisio

Thanks Aran. I hope it make some sort of sense though. I think it does! It can be tricky enough trying to find the right words in English sometimes though! I’ve already recorded the music, but I just wanted to check there are no glaring errors or utterly nonsensical passages before I record the vocals. Notice how I’ve used a lot of repetition to pad it out! :slight_smile:

You might want to change ‘i fyny’r ochr mynydd’ to ‘i fyny ochr y mynydd’ :sunny:
