'Limiting' vocabulary content in SSIW Infinite Play?

! True thing, I’ve never been very good at saying no.

Cyfeirio at parti pen-blwydd SSiW yng Nghaerfyrddin o’n i - you managed to charm them into not saying no, either, when they were clearly on the point of calling it a day

Hei Aran,

Alexander here, we had an email exchange on this topic. Just want to add to the conversation of stopping you from being a fairly useless bartender on a beach somewhere… on those days please remember you have completely changed so many people’s lives!

It is difficult to express the myriad of ways SSiW has changed my life but to some it up, I feel like I now live a much more deeper and richer life because of SSiW.

Diolch o galon am popeth a plis parhau !

You put that so well @alexander-antoniou - beautifully expressed, and I know for certain there are many out there that would agree with you.

We do have a TrustPilot page … should you feel so inclined

Bore da @aran - Diolch am bopeth! Dw i ‘di bod yn mwynhau’r cwrs yn fawr iawn.

I’ve started Black Belt on the app yesterday before I then came across this thread. I’m simply wondering how the new content would work with the usage of the current course.

I’d love to continue with Black Belt for now, but with new content rolling out weekly, does it mean I’m better off holding off on continuing with the course, since if I continued with it now I’d have to start over anyway? I do about 1-2 hours a day or even 3 hours so I’ve been progressing really quickly (I only started a couple of months ago and I’ve already reached Black Belt). Or have I misunderstood how the upcoming innovations will be implemented?

What would you recommend? Diolch eto!

Oh, gosh, yes, I remember that now - that was a fun night :joy:  Feels like decades ago!

That’s hugely moving, Alexander - thank you so, so much :folded_hands:

@aurum Good heavens, you’ve been going quickly! That’s an extraordinary rate of learning, well done.

I’m not really sure just yet how this will play out for people in the later stages - but if you’re on the new app (saysomethingin.app) then when we release the new content, you’ll be moved to the beginning of the new content (it kicks in just after what used to be the end of Level 1, so people still in the earlier stages won’t notice a difference).

At that point, you can see if it feels valuable and challenging enough for you to keep going with it - if it doesn’t, you’ll be able to skip back to black belt (and then you’ll probably need to do a lot of extra skipping to get back to where you were). But you know what, as I type this, I find myself realising that you’ll definitely get a LOT of extra value from the new content, and just skipping all of it would be a bit of a waste.

So I would suggest that you roll with the new content, and you just skip forward one introduction item when you get something new that you know you’ve already mastered. That should work really well

@aran Diolch am ateb, wrth fy modd efo’r cyngor!

Out of curiosity, which belts do the starting points of level 2 and 3 correspond to? I’m still trying to get my head around the belt-level relationship.

Mae amser yn hedfan heibio mor gyflym, tydy?

:joy::flushed:

We haven’t done a lot on belt->levels matching, but I’ve just done a couple of comparative searches and it’s looking as though you should be just beyond the end of Level 1 (equivalence) by the end of blue belt, and then Level 2 equivalance should be in the early stages of brown belt

But once we release the new content, which effectively gives us a pattern along the lines of Level 1, Level 2v2, Level 3v2, Level 4, Level 5, Level 6, Level 7, Level 2v1, Level 3v1, there just won’t be much useful comparison left between belts and levels

Mae hynna’n eitha’ diddorol :face_with_monocle:

I suspect this information would be quite useful for a lot of people since as they progress, they’d want to know which stage they’re going to return to.

So just to confirm: Once the course has updated, the app will just automatically send the user to Level 2v2 if they’ve already gone past that pre-change (say they’re currently at 45% on Brown Black), and there’ll be a bunch of new content sandwiched between Blue Black and Plain Brown they can play with. Once they finish Level 7 (or whichever number), they will return to the start of Plain Brown, and if they want skip to where they used to be, they can.

Are weekly releases belt level by level? As in, say I get sent back to L2v2, once I’m done with whatever has been released as part of L2v2 Part 1, I’ll get sent to L2v1, and the week after when another update comes I’ll get sent to the end of L2v2 Part 1 automatically, and I’ll do L2v2 Part 2?

Approximately when will the updates start taking place for North Welsh? Just so I know how much of the current Black Belt I can realistically get through before I get to experience the exciting new content :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Sorry about all of these questions, and appreciate you may not have all the answers now. I’m just really enthusiastic about the new changes and I truly appreciate the work done by you and your team. Will continue to support the cause!

Yeah, I’m hoping we can get to the point where it will have been so long since the Levels, there’ll be less hunger to compare like-for-like, but time will tell…

I’m a bit unsure about weekly releases - it’s certainly got the potential to get messy and hiccupy - but something like what you describe is probably pretty close to how it will work - I’m trying to nudge to get as much recording as possible done before we push any of it live, I’d really love to have only two or three updates in total…

We’re going to be starting to spread the word about the new listening content this week - which means the first ‘new speaking content coming soon’ will go out next week - which means that something will have to have gone wrong for us not to release the first set of new speaking content the week after (suboptimal since Tom and I will be at Richard Simcott’s Polyglot Conference in Bologna then, but needs must!).

I appreciate the questions and the enthusiasm!
