Friend of mine used ‘mae’n haws’(mine house)- for easier earlier. I was listening for ach or mwy/fwy so how does that work? Or is it irregular?

Well spotted - it’s irregular. As you would expect, there’s a few of them

I came across a new one to me just the other day …
Longer = hwy.
Others I know …
Easier = haws.
More difficult = anos.
Older = hŷn.
Younger = iau.
Any others I haven’t thought of / don’t know?

bigger = mwy (also means “more”)
smaller = llai (also means “less”)
better = gwell
worse = gwaeth
Many of those have not only irregular superlatives (e.g. gorau “best”) but also irregular equatives, often with cy(n)- (e.g. cystal “as good”, cymaint “as big”, cynddrwg “as bad” rather than mor dda, mor fawr, mor ddrwg/mor wael).

But don’t be surprised if you hear hawddach or mor ddrwg or others. They are not unknown, particularly in informal situations.
