I’m Christopher and live in the South Wales valleys. I stumbled across this website after having an awkward discussion with a lovely elderly gentleman in a local shop. Essentially, said gentleman engaged in his mother tongue (cymraeg) with me, and after an almost 10 year hiatus of speaking the language, I felt rather stumped!
I’ve never been a fluent welsh speaker but I’m hoping that, with the help of saysomethinginwelsh, I may achieve this. Fortunately, my partner is fluent so I’m having the privilege of testing my new found knowledge with her
I’ve just completed lesson 13 and find that most of the language is coming back to me very quickly. I’m sure I’ll be posting more on this forum as things become more difficult.
As a long term goal (or perhaps shorter now), I’ve promised my partner that I will say my vows to her in welsh when we get married next August! !
A warm welcome to the forum, Chris! Sounds as though you’re off to a flyer - which is something we often see with people who have quite a lot of ‘passive’ Welsh. And with a fantastic goal like that, I’m looking forward to seeing how well you do over the next few months

Dwi’n meddwyl bod I Bydd yn prynnu cwrs 2 a 3 wythnos nesaf. Dwi’n gobethio bod i’n gallu dysgu cymraeg mwy wedyn! Mae eisiau I fi llawer o ymarfer ond Dwi’n gwella. Dwi’n mwynhau dysgu cymraeg a hoffwen I dweud diolch yn fawr I dweud rhybeth yn cymraeg . com. Dysgu bob dydd gyda yr helpu iestyn a cat yn Wych a ddidoral!

Well… I’ve just taken the plunge and subscribed for the intermediate course - I will start lesson 1 today!!
I decided to revist a few previous lessons before moving forward as my pronunciations of certain words was, let’s say, far from perfect, which my lovely fiancée was keen to point out.
Anyway, enough of my ramblings. I’m afraid that I’m here to stay now -
Pronunciation will generally fix itself better in conversations than in over-repeating lessons (not that there’s any actual harm in repeating, apart from it slowing you down slightly) - so add repetition to taste, as it were, while rolling your eyes at your fiancée…
