Oh, da iawn ti! The coverage on S4C is always excellent - I really enjoy watching it. Do you do the Snowdon Marathon too? I usually know people running in either race, so it’s good fun trying to spot them.
thank you, and yes, I work on the marathon coverage too (this year it’ll be the 10th time I’ve worked it). perhaps you could encourage any Welsh speaking running friends to get in touch with me, we’re always looking for people to chat to ‘on camera’ on the day (even though we can’t guarantee we can fit them all into the final programme ).
If you’re in Llanberis for either race, do come and say helo … which applies to all SSiWers, not just Sara!
I think you’ve ‘done’ my brother-in-law and his identical twin brother a few years ago. But I’ll mention it to them in case any of their friends would like to chat.
I’m sure you know about the petition to save funding for S4C. I wonder if you have noticed any cut-backs to outside broadcasts?
we’ve noticed cutbacks across the board really. we used to feature a handful of runners in the Race & Marathon programmes by going out and pre-recording pieces we would then insert into the programmes, but had to stop doing that a few years back as the money just wasn’t there to film anything other than ‘on the day’ footage. Also, when I first started we would have helicopter shots (weather permitting) - no way we can afford to even consider those now!
I will mention this to Liz Saville Roberts. It may help her Committee (Welsh Affairs Select Committee) to fight for decent funding in the 2017 review!
p.s. I your post as ammunition. I do not like your being starved of cash! @aran Is that too controversial of me?
We will be in the country from July 31 through August 20, probably in the Snowdonia area around August 8 or 9. We’ll be sorry not to see the race; my wife and I have been walking half marathons for quite some time now, usually 2 or 3 of them a year.
well although the race is quite a spectacle, I’m sure Snowdonia will still give you plenty of pleasure Although I do hope the weather improves by then - it’s been a bit soggy lately!
That is one of the things we’re still up in the air about. From what I’ve been hearing, the weather is very changeable. How does one figure out what to wear? Must we plan to wear backpacks with several sorts of clothing in them?
Yes, you’ll need to pack for every eventuality, take a sun hat and sun cream, woolly hat and fleece, and waterproofs! The weather can be very changeable, and don’t rely on the weather forecasts even on the day, some places can have very localised weather. In the upland areas it’s even more changeable, even though the mountains aren’t as high in altitude as some, there can still be a huge difference, it can feel boiling hot down in the valley and then when you get to the top with a cold wind you might need to put fleece and gloves on!
absolutely what Cap says! I only live a mile and a half away from Caernarfon and yet the weather in the village can be doing something completely different to the weather in town!
To @siaronjames
Firstly, I wanted to congratulate you and your colleagues on the TV coverage of the race. The weather was awful, but despite this we got to see a very good overview and all the winners.
Secondly, How is the little girl who fell - the one proudly wearing her Wales colours, who was expected to get less than 1hr.25 minutes? Did she have to be carried down? Will she be OK to run again in future races? It was clear that racing for her country means a lot to her.
Diolch! Yes, it was a little damp for the race (wouldn’t you know it was actually dry and sunny by 6pm - typical Snowdonia weather!). I’m glad you enjoyed the programme - did you spot the SSiW cap I was wearing?
We were told that Bronwen took a tumble on the way down and apparently injured her shoulder. She - and many other injured runners during the course of the race - came down on the train, but we didn’t know this until much later, so didn’t get a chance to see her and haven’t heard any further details. I wasn’t in the office yesterday (time off in lieu of Saturday!), but I’ve emailed her this morning just to say we all hope she’s ok. I’m sure she’ll be back running in no time - the Eryri Harriers are a tough bunch!
Grovel! I did not!! I’ve never knowingly seen one! I have a t-shirt!!
Do let us know how Bronwen gets on! Such a shame she fell, I suspect she’d have challenged for at least 2nd or 3rd!
Are you filming Y Sioe Fawr? The folk we never see are those behind the camera!
You’ll have to watch it again on the S4C catch-up webpage! I was, honestly, trying to stay out of shot, but can be seen lurking with my clipboard on a couple of occasions.
no, I’m not involved with any Y Sioe Fawr programmes, although I think some of my colleagues who are making Fferm Ffactor may be down there.
Bronwen just replied to the email, she’s feeling better and hopes to get out running again very soon.
Re - Bronwen, newydd dda iawn!!
I had recorded Y Ras and undeleted it to look for you! I didn’t want to watch it all through at normal speed, so had it on 2xspeed and stopped it if I saw anything hopeful!! The only female person in a cap with a clipboard I have noticed was near the finish line and the cap was green and white, but any writing on it, I could not detect, much less read!! If this was you, Shmae! Helo! If not, where were you and what colour cap? Will you be working at the Eisteddfod when a lot of Forum folk are there?
yup, that was me! and that was the SSiW cap - but true, I was not close enough to the camera for you to see it in detail.
unfortunately I won’t be at the Eisteddfod - and I’m a bit gutted about that because I’m from the area - but I’m tied up up here so only get out on the occassional ‘local’ shoot.
I’m glad I found you! But what a shame about the Eisteddfod! A lot of folk who have been envying you your job have now realised it isn’t all roses!!
yes, I’m pretty convinced the “glamour of TV” only applies to a miniscule proportion of those with a job in TV and then only for brief moments amongst lots of decidedly less glamourous aspects!
