Chelmsford and District Welsh Society - Needs You!

Blwyddyn Newydd Dda!

We are a Welsh Society based in Chelmsford, Essex with around 100 members. SSiW suggested that this would be a good place to post a little info about our society. We are keen to reach out to anyone with interests in Welsh language, culture or traditions who would like to join our society.

All meetings are conducted in English with an opportunity to converse with other Welsh speakers during the evening. The topics and/or speakers at our meetings usually have a Welsh connection although there are also some of local interest. We also hold a Noson Lawen in January, a St David’s Day Dinner and a Church Service on or around March 1st. We regularly hold a Cymanfa Ganu in May, and an annual concert featuring a Welsh Male Choir in May/June held at Chelmsford Cathedral. There is also an opportunity to join us in a short break visit to Wales. Throughout the year there are also fund raising events such as coffee mornings, musical evenings and a Garden Party at the end of June.

The Society’s monthly Meeting is normally held in St Cedd’s Hall, Cathedral Chapter House, Chelmsford, (CM1 1NX Essex, England), close to the Cathedral, and is usually on the fourth Thursday of every month, September through to June at 7.30 p.m.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 28th January.

We are a very open and welcoming society; our (new) Facebook page and Website are as follows:

If you would like any further info or would be interested in joining us, please let me know.

Well, I’m not even near UK, but I can still say

Croeso ar y fforwm a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda!

Croeso i’r fforwm Gwenno!

I am tagging @Deborah-SSi in this so she can give you a mention in our weekly newsletter, which also lists all the known meet-ups our members have set-up and continue to run.

All new meet-ups give other learners the opportunity to attend and practice using their Welsh, and I think there isn’t many in Essex, so this will be good news for those members living in the Chelmsford area and surrounding areas.

And of course any additional events you will be holding can always be announced using our forum when they arise. Hopefully we can give you a bigger reach.

I look forward to seeing you about on the forum, a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda i chi hefyd!
