Calling all SSiW meet-up/chat group organisers and coordinators

Check out the list of Welsh Meet Ups on the Paned website: https://paned.cymru/

Aberaeron and Lampeter are easy bus rides from Aberystwyth and both have excellent groups. Aberaeron is a lovely town so definitely worth a visit. Lampeter is the home of Garth Newydd so you might like to keep an eye on their website for the activities there too!

If you fancy heading north of Aberystwyth, our chat group meets every Wednesday morning in the TH Roberts cafe in Dolgellau. There are regular buses. It’s a very informal group with members of all levels from relative beginners to first language speakers. The meeting runs from around 10.15 a.m. to midday, but people drop in when they can. You would be very welcome to join us.

Diolch, Cetra. I stayed at Garth Newydd last year (during a cold and very wet spell) and had totally forgotten we met up with a group in Aberdaeron for a cuppa!

Diolch yn fawr for the invitation, Margaret. I shall hope to see you one morning next May!

We meet in the big room upstairs, at the far end under the window. But if you ask at the counter when you order your drink/food, they’ll direct you to us.

Sadly, Margaret, I won’t be meeting with your group this May, or with any of the other groups I had noted down. I was supposed to be flying with Emirates through Dubai in 9 days time, but cancelled this week. Hopefully, world affairs and aviation fuel supplies permitting, I’ll join you sometime next year. I shall most likely stay in Aberystwyth again, and in the same place I had booked as the owners have been incredibly kind and helpful. They are both Welsh speakers, so I had quite a few opportunities to practice my Welsh writing. And I discovered that Airbnb (at least on the UK and Australian platforms) automatically translates into English - and it is not competent so provided us with some hilarious results! Dymuniadau gorau.

I’m so sorry you won’t be able to join next month. There must be so many people that have had their plans upset by the current situation in the Middle East. Let us hope that things will be more peaceful by next year.
