3.30pm on Saturday 5th March. You’ll all be leaving Sain Ffagan right now on your way to have Welsh tea. Shame the Barry carload couldn’t follow, but we’ll be thinking of you. Here’s just some of us on our way round…

What a lovely time we spent with you all. It was a great pleasure to get to know some of you - and hear some of the fun things you get to discuss at your meetings !!!

Brilliant day, so lucky with the weather. Not sure if you got a snap of the group that includes Mark, so here’s mine:

It was so lovely to meet you all today. I had some interesting chats with many of you, both in Welsh and English!! It would be great to keep up the connection between our two communities. Enjoy the rest of your weekend in Cardiff.

Amazing weather for your visit last weekend! I’m sorry I didn’t get to talk to as many of you as I would have liked. I seem to be running about like a crazy thing at the moment.

You’ll just have to plan another trip before too long!

I’m sorry its been so long, but a huge thank you to all our friends from South Wales who made it along to spend the day with us at St Fagans, tea at the Cant a Mil Vintage shop and supper/noson lawen at the Mochyn Du. Thank you for coming and joining in what was a brilliant weekend.
We’re half talking about a visit to the Eisteddfod. It partly depends on when the SSIW party will be. Any ideas anyone?
Either way, maybe we’ll see you all again if we can arrange a weekend next year too

I think Catrin has this on her ‘sort out’ list, somewhere after ‘survive the puppy’…

It would be really great to meet up again at the Eisteddfod. I hope it happens as it was fabulous meeting you all at St Fagans

It’s now a bit over two years since Cacen came to Cardiff. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100006602778703

Sorry it’s a bit short notice, but we are heading that way again next weekend 7 & 8 April.

The plan so far is Saturday

If there’s time between breakfast and the Senedd, visit the Pierhead museum of Cardiff

11:00 tour of the Senedd - assuming they confirm availability at that time, so watch this space. It’s a free tour - it seems they have timeslots. If you would like to join us, please let me know and meet us there. I will put it on here if there is a change.

Lunch on the hoof or in a splendid Indian tiny cafe/restaurant not far from the Stadium.

3:00 pm Tour of the Millenium Stadium. Those who want to do the tour, please go to the website below and book your ticket. It’s £12.50 a head.

I imagine you don’t need to prebook. I’ll take a chance and maybe go if there is time.

Evening at the Tafarn Y Mochyn Du which is back up and running - http://www.brewhouseandkitchen.com/venue/caerdydd/ . With only a few of us doing the pilgrimage this time, I figure we’ll just eat and socialise, although I will extend invitations to a few local friends too (That’s you). I am awaiting confirmation that a table is available. Please let me know if you’d like to join us so I can confirm numbers with them.

Sunday - Breakfast to be worked out as the Deck doesn’t open until 11:00!

Anyone is welcome to dip in and out of any of the events.

Please PM me with your email address and telephone number if you would like to come. I will obviously give you mine.

I’ve changed the title for you Mark. It sounds like a great weekend … hmm, I wonder if I could squeeze a trip to Caerdydd into my schedule

One question - will the tour of the Senedd be in Welsh or English? I know they do both.

Hello Dee

Thank you for changing the title - I spent too long scratching my head on that one…

Latest news - Saturday lunch will be at an Indian (veggie as it happens) called Madhav 5 minutes from the Stadium. It’s not at all fast food but worth the wait.

As for the Senedd tour - I have asked for both. There will be a) non Welsh speakers and b) Welsh speakers thankful for and English version, so least worst option really

The Mochyn Du can accommodate the party size so far, so if you’d like to come, please let me know so I can tell them to get a bigger table. we will be there from about 7:30.

One thing I forgot to mention - if there’s time, we will visit the Pierhead https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Pierhead+Building,+Cardiff+CF10+4PZ/@51.4687087,-3.1753125,16.25z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x486e03371200d88d:0xd668d6caa4be4d7!8m2!3d51.4635255!4d-3.1633848
between Breakfast and the Senedd.

In an attempt to avoid confusion I have just added this into the original itinerary above

Madhav does fantastic food - their house speciality Thali is highly recommended! The restaurant itself is rather small though, but I’m sure they will accomodate.

I may also be free on the Saturday to meet with you all for the Senedd/Pierhead building tour. I doubt I will do the Millennium (“Principality”) stadium tour though. I will post nearer the time for confirmation though, unless the tours need numbers confirmed then I’ll try to post sooner.

Hello All

My final email to the Expedition is as follows. If you want to eat with us please let me know so we can help out at the bwytai.

The final version of events is as follows. You wouldn’t believe how hard it is to get through to some institutions. Will explain when we’re all together.

Please confirm you would like to eat where indicated so I can tell the restaurants exactly how many to lay table for.

  1. Wherever you are staying, I have arranged a table for 10 at what is reputedly the best and certainly most independent Italian restaurant in Cardiff. Giovannis On The Hayes - Giovanni’s
The table is booked for 8:00 pm in my name (Mark Price) and for 10 people. Please confirm whether you want this so I can tell them exactly. Kate and I will likely be late so will rely on someone to turn up and sit down. Unless you arrive en mass, I suggest you order as you arrive otherwise some will have a long time hanging around.

  1. 08:30 Breakfast at Bill’s Cardiff Bay Restaurant | Bill’s Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Map is on the second (Contact) tab of their website below. Table booked for 10 people.

  2. Morning - Mike’s suggestion of the Pierhead http://www.pierhead.org/en/about.php

  3. 11:00 am Tour of the Senedd no charge. Party confirmation for 11:00 please arrive 5 minutes early as we have to check in - they have promised bi-lingual.

  4. Half hour walk or bus to slightly north of the Stadium for as it happens vegetarian Indian lunch at Madhav. Famed locally but not for speed.
    http://www.pierhead.org/en/about.php

  5. Afternoon - tour of the Stadium. I have booked for me and Kate at 15:00. Those who want to do the tour, please go to the website below and book your ticket. It’s £12.50 a head. Language is whatever we get or can persuade on the spot.

https://bookings.principalitystadium.wales/stadiumtours/booking/default.htm?search=tours&tourType=0&groupSize=8&firstAvailable=true

  1. For those who want, the Castle tour (£12.50). The Castle is at Cardiff Castle Admission Ticket (with Photos) | Cardiff, Southern Wales - TripAdvisor I imagine you don’t need to prebook. I’ll take a chance and maybe go if there is time or I need a cup of tea more urgently.
  1. Tea at the Old Reference Library Old Library, Cardiff https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Library,_Cardiff
    before and/or afterwards wander - the Market/shopping

  2. Evening at the Mochyn Du which is back up and running http://www.brewhouseandkitchen.com/venue/caerdydd/ . With only a few of us doing the pilgrimage this time, I figure we’ll just eat and socialise, although I have extended invitations to a few local friends. Table for 10 is already booked - additionals please let me know.

  3. Sunday - Breakfast to be worked out.

  4. Chapel - Tabernacl 10:30

  5. St Fagan’s museum for lunch and maybe a wander afterwards unless anyone comes up with a better idea.

Anyone is welcome to dip in and out of any of the events and/or stay wherever they want.

As said, please let me know asap about Giovanni’s, Bill’s and the Mochyn Du. If Bill’s is ok, we can book for the Sunday unless we have a better idea - maybe find somewhere closer to the Tabernacl.

Safe journey and see you there.

Me again!

I will be coming along tomorrow. I will try to arrive in time for the Pierhead Building tour (if it is happening), only I couldn’t see an expected time so I’ll be aiming to arrive by 10am and try to find you all.

Failing that, I will be there before 11am for tge Senedd tour.

I will also join you all for the meal at Madhav, as I love the food there! I will be disappearing around 1:45pm though as I will be heading to the Hayes to join the hour long peaceful protest against the renaming of Pont Hafren 2 (although anyone who wishes to join me will be more than welcome to!).

Ta beth, gwela i chi gyd yn y bore!

A huge thank you to those who came and joined us on our tour. Fantastic to see you and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Some photos at :slight_smile:https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100006602778703

An addition to the agenda was the Pont Hafren protest Saturday afternoon which added a certain je ne sai quuoi/dw i ddim yn gwybod beth to the events.

All in all a culinary stomach-fest but hugely uplifted by two items of news:

  1. The Mochyn Du - although it has changed hands and had its name changed, one of the new owning partners is a Cardiff lad and has pledged to keep its Welshness going https://www.walesonline.co.uk/business/business-news/brewhouse--kitchen-retain-welsh-14264415
  2. I chatted to a couple of waiter staff at Bill’s restaurant in the Bay. https://bills-website.co.uk/restaurants/cardiff-bay/
Both said they wanted to start learning Welsh - guess where I pointed them? Bill’s started in Lewes, East Sussex so is close to where Cacen is based. The most interesting bit, though, was one of the waiters said Bill’s has made it company policy that for their Welsh sites (so far two, both in Cardiff) they intend recruiting Welsh speakers and are about to print all their literature for their Welsh bwytau in Welsh as well as English. Forward thinking, I think.

I promised that in return they would earn many Brownie points for this and it would generate added support for their business. So get to it, folks - go and eat there and tell them you agree with their strategy and that it will result in more support from the Welsh community because they are making the effort.
