Am I the first person to spot that Swedish is now in the app? ![]()
Congratulations! ![]()
@rich
Nice one! I wasn’t aware of that one.
I will give it a try this evening and report back ![]()
I’ve just made a thread for it in the Other Languages section ![]()
Hi Rich, could you please have a look into my account, please.
On the phone, it takes about 10 min. until the course starts, then I get two words introduced, have the prompts, about 10 or 20 according to the length of the sentences and then, after about 6 min. no more prompts, the circles are grey. I have to close the app, wait about 1 hour, and then I can start the same, only to get about 6 min. of learning. I installed the new version of the app yesterday, because I thought this could help, but the problems are the same.
The web app crashes every 16 min. I thought that the browser ( Firefox) could cause the problem, so I switched to Chrome, but it’s the same.
Any help or advice is much appreciated,
Hi @rich
I gave the web app a good test this evening. It definitely doesn’t seem to get stuck in a loop and is serving up a much wider range of phrases (some of which I don’t recall seeing before). So it seems a good workaround for my particular issue, fingers crossed.
The only thing I wanted to ask. Does the skip button work in the same way on the web app? The delivery of phrases seems very slow, with a long time before the two speakers give the response. No amount of hitting the skip button seems to speed this up like it does on the app version.
Thanks,
Des
Hi Brigitte,
Yes, we can look at.your account.

Hi @des-greene
Ok, so that is good news and as we suspected.
Yes we have noticed the longer gap which is simply due to request for audio being done ‘on the fly’ and the turnaround time. This one hasn’t got to the top of the list yet!

@rich
No worries. So long as I know.
I can aim for perfection instead of the ten percent zone, but don’t tell Aran! ![]()
Enjoy what’s left of your evening!

Huge, huge diolchiadau to everyone reporting issues, you’re making an incredibly valuable and helpful contribution to the work - we really are extraordinarily grateful
![]()
Also heartfelt thanks to @rich for all his work - he has absolutely transformed our ability to respond and improve in the face of problems, which I feel has been a vital, game-changing contribution to the project. ![]()
Not sure if this is the best place for cross-linguistic snagging, or whether to tag @Kai, @rich or @thomas-cassidy.
I’m noticing that intermittently, but often - perhaps when the app moves on a chunk? - I’m losing the beginning of the prompt. When that’s “(The I)talian for X is”, that’s clearly not a problem (although it sounds Beta, so to speak), but when the Portuguese prompt is “(You, Sir,) now” etc. it’s obviously more of an issue. It feels worse to me since the recent update, but it may be just because I’m at a point where I’m getting fewer “(The Por)tuguese for X” prompts.
Android app on Android 14.
This sounds like something that could be related to the problem we’ve just found and fixed, which effects people who have very large learning records. The App runs out of space internally and runs into the treacle performance-wise as a result.
We are testing the fix at the moment and will release it as soon as that is done.

I could just scroll up and up and up until I find where it was mentioned, but I’m feeling lazy. So, do I recall correctly that the first batch of languages in the app was going to include Korean? Is that still in the works?
if you don’t fancy a long scroll, there’s always the search function ![]()
there’s always the search function
Haha, so there is! Thanks for doing it for me, Siaron.
From that initial list, somewhere along the way, Korean got overtaken by Finnish and Swedish. ![]()
So what happens now?
Korean has slipped down the pecking order, sorry about that.
We are still doing it but we’ve been focusing on improvements to existing courses more than we expected.
We will be aiming to get something like 2 new languages a month our the door once we get into the swing of things.
Next up after improvements to existing courses is our suite of English for X speakers courses, which should include:
Japanese
Chinese
Korean
Spanish
Arabic
Italian
And after that back on to new courses for English speakers.
It all depends on a combination of ease of production and opportunity.
It turned out to be very easy to produce Finnish and Swedish for our team because of Kai!
Can I ask how the improvements to existing courses are coming along? I’m really keen to try the Chinese course when it’s out of beta.
Also (as a stretch goal), do you think you’ll ever have a Yoruba course in the future (ha ha, I don’t want much,do I)?
I’m supposed to be going to Korea for a fortnight in April, so here’s to hoping it is at least in beta by then!
As it’s been explained in previous discussions, beta is functional, so you can use it now if you want. Each language is being released in beta and will stay in beta for several months.
It’s up to you. It will likely be a smoother experience if you wait until summer, but the glitches you may encounter if you start learning Chinese now shouldn’t actually stop you acquiring the language.
