A course one lesson 6 bonus lesson

Hi Everyone,

I’ve asked this before years ago on the old forum but our Welsh class have been doing lesson 6 bonus lesson over the holidays and I just know someone is going to ask me what fel 'name mae…yndefe is is short for. Can someone remind me?

Also, on the old forum I used to be able to go back and check my posts. Is there a feature in the new forum to do this apart from the search box? I’m trying to re-find the nursery rhymes.

Diolch.

“Fel na mae, yndefe” means “that’s how it is, isn’t it”. A passing phrase you might say to mean, “that’s life, eh?” or similar meaning.

Hi Gavin, thanks. I know what it means but, from memory, it is a contraction - a shortened version of other words. I recall Iestyn explaining it once.m

Perhaps fel ‘na ma’ i a fel 'na fydd hi, something we learnt on Bootcamp from reading a Rownd a Rownd script so kindly given to us during our visit to the film set on Ynys Môn.

Hwyl,

Stu

My guess is “Fel 'na mae” is short for “Fel yna mae hi,” or roughly “It is like that” in English. Maybe yndefe is short for “Yndw fe?” or “Is it?”

Link to Iestyn talking about the subject- (on’d ife/ yntife etc, that is)

Diolch! I can’t seem to find the old forum. Maybe I’m dense. All my searches bring me back to the new one. :frowning:

And that is the value of keeping old bookmarks! Here’s a link to the old forum index:
