@Deborah-SSi @Kai Can someone message Aran and tell him his livestream has no sound again. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

It’s only 5 minutes in, so it’s still salvageable IMO.

Nooooo… thanks for trying! It’s so weird, I have no idea why it does that sometimes. Very frustrating!

Aran, I have to go to bed now (it’s 1am here and I still need to finish my 20 minutes of Italian on your app too!); but I wonder if if the reason for the the thing you mentioned with so many verbs starting in p might possibly be an aspect prefix, such as perfective or imperfective aspect.

Just a complete guess. I net Tatjana would know, though.

Oh, I wonder - it certainly reminds me of the prevalance of ‘cy’ verbs in Welsh - although I can’t see a pattern in the ones starting with c just yet - interesting stuff (but I find it much harder to remember things which start with the same letter! :joy:).

Sorry to hear about the sciatica. That’s definitely a valid excuse to miss a couple of days. Nothing flakey about that at all.

You’ve done a fantastic job.

That’s very kind of you!

There’s definitely a pattern towards the end of projects that I start to feel that the main gains have already happened with the speaking, and that I want to shift towards listening - and then this time I also had a feeling that those 11 hours of listening while driving kind of went beyond the boundaries of the 75 day idea :joy:

But here are my apologies, and then an actual final speaking session:

Well, there’s a lot to unpack there. I hope you don’t mind iif I break it into parts.

  1. I’m not sure I really get your logic about what does and what doesn’t deviate from the challenge TBH. It seems to me that the challenge was all about what could be achieved in 75 days using SSi as the main method and (this is is the main difference from Japanuary) on a daily schedule anyone can emulate.. You’ve done that. It makes little sense to me that 4 conversation sessions (which, by the way, are ABSOLUTELY the right decision BTW) aren’t a deviation but 11 hours of listening are. Heck, I even think you are unnecessarily depriving yourself by not spending a couple of hours on the flight with a cheap phrase book filling in gaps.

  2. I don’t need to tell you that the brain has its rhythms and that, if everything in you is telling you to take a break from the challenges and go heavy on the listening and arrange some conversations, you are right to do this (and maybe should have done it earlier?? as you’ve been talking about wanting to for a couple of weeks). As I tried to say above, what is interesting about this challenge for me (and I’m guessing most others following along) was to see what can be achieved with the method (the FULL method) in 75 days, not a scientific study of what the exact parameters you initially chose result in.

  3. Don’t apologise! I can’t wait to see how you do! And I think that you will definitely have better conversations out there by first giving your brain that couple of days’ break you took and then going heavy on the listening and conversations for the last 4 days. That will make it more exciting not less.

It’s also been really great to see and hear how much pleasure you have taken in how much easier it is for you now!

This has been a fantastic inspiration and I can’t wait to hear about your conversations in Croatia! Genuinely, well done!
